The HCLTech exam pattern for the fresher assessment has four separately-timed MCQ sections plus a coding round inside one proctored online sitting of about 80 minutes, followed by technical and HR interviews.

Section 1 — Quantitative Aptitude (15 questions, 15 minutes)
One minute per question on classic arithmetic: HCF/LCM, time and work, pipes and cisterns, percentages, profit and loss, speed–time–distance and averages. Practice on the aptitude questions page.
Section 2 — Logical Reasoning (15 questions, 15 minutes)
Blood relations, syllogisms, coding-decoding, inequalities, seating arrangements and series. Most questions are quick wins if you have drilled the standard formats — see logical reasoning questions.
Section 3 — Verbal Ability (15 questions, 15 minutes)
Error identification, fill in the blanks, synonyms/antonyms, spelling, idioms and para jumbles — standard professional English at a fast pace. Practice on the verbal ability page.
Section 4 — Computer Fundamentals (15 questions, 15 minutes)
HCLTech's signature section: output tracing and pseudocode, OOP concepts, DBMS and SQL, operating systems and networking basics. Non-CS branches should budget extra preparation time here — start with the Computer Fundamentals questions.
Coding round (2 problems, ~20 minutes)
Two implementation problems — string manipulation, arrays, digit logic — in C, C++, Java or Python. The problems are shorter than TCS or Wipro coding rounds but the time is tighter. Practice real problems on the coding questions page.
Campus AMP assessment
In campus drives run under the AMP program, the Ascend assessment stretches into a 90-minute cognitive test (numerical, verbal, reasoning), a 60–90 minute coding/technical test and a Versant English test (minimum B1 level). Top scorers are invited to Momentum and Polaris upgrade assessments for the higher packages.
