HackWithInfy feeds three premium fresher roles at Infosys. They join in the same cohort and often sit in the same training batch, but the work, the pay and the bar are different. Know which one you are aiming at before Round 1.
The three roles side by side
| Digital Specialist Engineer (DSE) | Specialist Programmer (SP) | Power Programmer (PP) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Developer on digital-transformation projects — cloud, data, modern web stacks — with a strong engineering foundation | Hands-on problem-solver placed on complex engineering and product-style work; levels L1, L2, L3 | Infosys's label for its elite full-stack engineers who build platforms and IP; reached via top HWI ranks or the internal Bridge Program |
| Package (candidate-reported) | ₹6.25 LPA (+ ₹75,000 joining bonus in the 2026 drive) | L1 ₹9.5–10 LPA (+ ₹1 lakh bonus) · L2 ₹16 LPA · L3 ₹21 LPA | Historically ₹8–9.5 LPA; now largely mapped to SP bands |
| HWI performance that gets the PPI | Round 1: two problems solved | Round 1: ~2.5 problems; Round 2: 2–3 of 4 | Round 2 top ranks / finale |
| Interview depth | DSA basics, one coding question, projects, HR | Paper coding, SQL window functions, OOP/SOLID, OS, design basics | SP depth plus system design and language internals |
| Bond / service agreement | Infosys fresher roles carry a service agreement of up to one year — read the offer letter | ||
Specialist Programmer
SP is the role HackWithInfy is built around — Infosys's own page names "Specialist Programmer" as the PPI target. SPs are deployed on work that needs real algorithmic and engineering depth: platform components, performance-critical services, AI-adjacent builds. The L1/L2/L3 split is decided at the interview: L1 is the standard HWI outcome, L2 and L3 require exceptional Round 2 scores and a near-flawless technical discussion. Reports from the 2026 cycle show candidates who solved "2.5+ of 4" in Round 2 being placed at SP L1.
Digital Specialist Engineer
DSE is the safety net that still pays almost double the Systems Engineer package. You get it when Round 1 is good but not outstanding, or when an SP interview goes averagely — panels downgrade to DSE far more often than they reject outright. DSEs work on digital projects and can move up through the internal Bridge Program (see below).
Power Programmer and the Bridge Program
Power Programmer is the badge Infosys gives its top-tier developers. In early HackWithInfy editions it was the headline hiring role; today Infosys advertises SP externally and uses the Bridge Program internally — a three-round track (online coding, on-campus coding, technical interview) through which working DSEs move to Power Programmer. A 2025 Bridge report lists exactly the HackWithInfy problem types: prime sums, K closest points, LIS, array rotation with prefix sums, string DP.
The same three roles are hired through the SP/DSE off-campus assessment for graduating batches. Component-wise pay is on the salary page.
