The Cognizant recruitment process for freshers runs in four stages: registration with skill-cluster selection, the online assessment, a technical interview and an HR discussion. End to end, expect 2–6 weeks from test to offer letter.
Stage 1 — Registration and skill-cluster selection
Campus candidates register through the Superset platform (or a college-specific link); off-campus candidates apply on careers.cognizant.com. At registration you choose Cluster 1 (Java, SQL, Web UI) or Cluster 2 (Python, SQL, Cloud) — this decides your technical assessment and interview focus, so choose deliberately (cluster guide here).
Stage 2 — Online assessment
A proctored sitting covering the communication assessment, the 80-question aptitude round and, for GenC Next aspirants, the cluster-based technical assessment (full pattern here). Stable internet, webcam on, working headset, no tab switching. There is no negative marking — attempt everything.
Stage 3 — Technical interview
A discussion built around your chosen cluster: programming fundamentals in Java or Python, live SQL query writing (second highest salary and duplicate emails are perennial favourites), your resume projects, and SDLC/Agile basics. GenC Next candidates get harder questions — DSA reasoning, language internals and design trade-offs. In the 2026 cycle interviewers also probe how you use AI tools in your work. Prepare with our Cognizant interview questions.
Stage 4 — HR interview
Communication, flexibility and fit: willingness to work from any Cognizant office in any shift, career plans and service-agreement terms. For standard GenC offers the technical and HR rounds are often combined into one conversation. Document verification usually starts here — keep marksheets and ID ready.
After selection
- Offer tiering — assessment and interview performance decide GenC, GenC Elevate or GenC Next terms (see track comparison).
- Onboarding & training — GenC training runs through Cognizant's learning platforms, including the Synapse AI-skilling initiative.
- Deployment — allocation to a delivery centre and project based on business demand.
All communication comes through your registered email and the Superset/careers portal — check both regularly, including spam. Cognizant never asks for payment at any stage.
