Eight reasoning questions — series, coding-decoding, blood relations and direction sense — the four families that fill most of the Ignite reasoning section. Each has a worked explanation showing the fastest route.
Find the missing numbers in the series: 225, 256, 289, __, 361, __, 441
One number does not follow the pattern of the series. Find it: 2197, 5832, 12168, 21952, 35937
In a certain code language SHIVAM is written as 123456 and NAVEEN as 854998. How is ESHAN written in the same code?
If A = 1×2, B = 2×2, C = 3×2 … and KNOT is written as 120, how is DIVA written in the same code?
In a code language, '248' means 'he is dead', '381' means 'dead or alive' and '563' means 'sea or water'. Which digit stands for 'alive'?
In a code, 'I + J' means I is the mother of J, 'I − J' means I is the brother of J, 'I % J' means I is the father of J and 'I × J' means I is the sister of J. Which expression shows that A is the maternal uncle of B?
Nagendra walks 20 m north, turns right and walks 30 m, turns right and walks 35 m, turns left and walks 15 m, and finally turns left and walks 15 m. How far and in which direction is he from the start?
Santosh is facing east. She turns 70° clockwise and then 205° anticlockwise. Which direction is she facing now?
Method notes
- Series: check squares/cubes first, then constant difference, then constant ratio, then alternating patterns.
- Coding-decoding: write the alphabet with positions 1–26 on your rough sheet before the section starts.
- Blood relations: draw a tiny family tree — never solve in your head.
- Directions: plot coordinates (x, y) with north as +y; the final displacement answers both distance and direction.
- Seating arrangements take longest — attempt them last within the section.
