The average of four consecutive odd numbers is 12. What is the smallest of these numbers?
₹100 is invested at 10% per annum compound interest. In how much time will it grow to ₹121?
Shortcuts worth memorising
- km/h → m/s: multiply by 5/18. (m/s → km/h: multiply by 18/5.)
- Fraction–percentage pairs: 1/8 = 12.5%, 1/6 = 16.67%, 1/3 = 33.33%, 3/8 = 37.5%.
- "x% less" vs "y% more": if A is 20% less than B, B is 25% more than A — the base changes.
- Consecutive numbers: the average is the middle term; for an even count it is midway between the two middle terms.
- Compound interest, 2 years: amount = P(1 + r/100)²; the CI − SI difference is P(r/100)².
- Options are a tool: with no negative marking, plug the options back into the question when algebra looks long.
