TechBee selection is merit-based and has four assessed stages after registration. Unlike college admissions there is no rank list — each stage is a pass/fail filter, and clearing all of them earns a Letter of Interest followed by the offer.
Stages
| Stage | What it checks | Format |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Registration | Eligibility — Class 12 year, board, marks, maths | Online form at registrations.hcltechbee.com; free |
| 2. HCL CAT | Quantitative reasoning, logical reasoning, English | Online MCQ test in English, self-scheduled from the portal; no fee |
| 3. Versant | Spoken English and listening | Pearson computer-scored test, about 17 minutes, headset required |
| 4. Interview & essay | Motivation, communication, basic awareness, parents' support | Face-to-face with the HCLTech selection committee; short written essay |
| 5. Offer | Letter of Interest → offer, fee and loan formalities | Email and counsellor call; documents verified at joining |
Stage 2 — HCL CAT
An online MCQ test of quantitative reasoning, logical reasoning and English, roughly two hours with a short essay, no negative marking. Cut-offs are not published; candidates who report clearing it typically describe getting about 60% or more of the questions right. Full details on the exam pattern page.
Stage 3 — Versant
Versant is Pearson's automated spoken-English test, taken on a laptop or phone with a headset, about 17 minutes. You repeat sentences you hear, answer short questions, answer questions about a passage, retell a passage and give a short opinion. A computer scores pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary and listening. HCLTech does not publish the cut-off. It is not a grammar exam — clear, steady, natural speech is what scores. Practise by reading aloud and recording yourself for two weeks before.
Stage 4 — Interview and essay
A 15–25 minute conversation with one or two members of the HCLTech selection committee, usually at a TechBee centre or a partner venue in your state. Expect: introduce yourself, why TechBee rather than college, what you know about HCLTech, whether your parents support the decision and the fee, willingness to relocate, one or two basic computer or maths questions, and sometimes a situational question to see how you think. Your 200-word essay is read at this stage. Model answers are on the interview questions page.
Stage 5 — Offer, fee and joining
- A Letter of Interest comes first, then the offer with your track, training centre and batch month.
- The counsellor walks you and your parents through the fee, the bank-loan paperwork (zero down payment option) and the higher-education enrolment.
- Originals are verified at joining; a mismatch with the registration data cancels the offer, so enter marks exactly as printed.
Timeline: from HCL CAT to offer usually takes three to six weeks; batches start after joining formalities. If you have not heard back two weeks after your interview, email [email protected] with your registration ID.
