The degree is the reason WILP exists. Wipro sponsors a four-year M.Tech from what its notification calls "a premier university"; Scholar Trainees report that the programme is run through BITS Pilani's Work Integrated Learning Programmes division, the same body that delivers work-integrated degrees for several IT employers. Classes are held one day a week — usually a Saturday or Sunday, online or at a Wipro learning centre — while you work on a project Monday to Friday.
Programme structure (candidate-reported)
| Degree | M.Tech (software engineering / computing specialisation as offered to the batch) |
| Duration | 4 years / 8 semesters, running alongside the 60-month service agreement |
| Delivery | One class day per week (weekend), online lectures, semester exams at designated centres; project work at Wipro on weekdays |
| Fee | Paid by Wipro; trainees pay no tuition (an exam / registration fee may apply — confirm in the offer letter) |
| First year | Pre-skilling and foundation training (programming, databases, tools), then project allocation as a trainee engineer |
| Years 2–4 | Client project work in a domain such as cloud, testing, application support or data, with the M.Tech coursework and dissertation continuing on weekends |
| On completion | M.Tech degree from the partner university; conversion to a full-time Wipro role (candidates report Senior Project Engineer) |
What it is like in practice
- Time. Expect a six-day week for most of four years: five days of project work plus one class day, with assignments in the evenings before exams. Trainees who plan a fixed study block cope; those who leave coursework to exam week struggle.
- Academic bar. The university applies its own minimum CGPA to continue; failing courses can put both the degree and the trainee status at risk, so treat semester exams as seriously as a project release.
- Project allocation. Trainees are deployed where Wipro needs them — candidates report Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata and Noida — and the domain (cloud, testing, support) is decided by the business, not by preference.
- Exit. Leaving before 60 months triggers pro-rata recovery of the ₹75,000 joining bonus and, since the degree is tied to employment, usually means leaving the M.Tech midway.
Why it is still a strong deal
A self-funded M.Tech costs two years of income plus fees; WILP gives the degree, four years of experience and a stipend of roughly ₹9 lakh over the programme (plus the joining bonus), then a full-time role. For a BCA / B.Sc graduate whose alternative is a ₹3–4 LPA support job with no degree progression, the four-year total compares well — the numbers are on the salary & stipend page.
Wipro has not named the partner university on its current WILP page; the BITS Pilani detail, the weekly class pattern and the completion role are from Scholar Trainees' public accounts. Confirm the university and specialisation in your Letter of Intent.
