Here is what happens after you take the TCS NQT — the hiring pipeline from results to joining day, with realistic timelines drawn from recent drives.
Step 1 — Results and shortlisting (2–4 weeks after the test)
TCS emails shortlisted candidates and updates the NextStep portal. Your combined test performance places you in the Ninja, Digital or Prime interview track. There is no publicly declared cut-off; shortlists vary by drive and demand.
Step 2 — Interview invitations (4–8 weeks after results)
Interview slots are shared on the portal/email. Carry originals plus photocopies: all marksheets, degree/provisional certificate, photo ID, PAN, and passport-size photos. Virtual interviews require a stable camera-on setup.
Step 3 — The interview panel
Technical, managerial and HR evaluation — see the interview questions page for detailed preparation. Some candidates receive an upgraded or downgraded track after the interview (e.g., Digital aspirants offered Ninja), depending on performance.
Step 4 — Offer letter and background verification
- Offer letters are released on the portal — typically 2–6 weeks after the interview.
- Accept online, then complete BGV: academic documents, address and ID proofs, and employment proof if experienced.
- Any mismatch between the application form and documents (percentages, gaps, backlogs) can void the offer — accuracy matters from day one.
Step 5 — Joining and ILP
Joining letters follow with location and date. Freshers begin with the Initial Learning Program (ILP) — a structured training of several weeks — before being deployed to a project. Onboarding waves can be staggered, so joining dates may arrive in batches over a few months.
