The TCS NQT recruitment process runs in clearly defined stages, from online registration to the offer letter. End to end, it typically takes 6–14 weeks depending on the drive size.
Stage 1 — Registration and application
Create a profile on the TCS NextStep portal (IT category), complete the application form and click Apply For Drive. Details on the registration process page.
Stage 2 — The NQT exam
A 190-minute in-centre test: Foundation (Numerical, Verbal, Reasoning) plus Advanced (Advanced Aptitude and Coding). Your combined performance maps you to the Ninja, Digital or Prime interview track. See the syllabus for the full pattern.
Stage 3 — Interviews
Shortlisted candidates face a panel covering three areas, usually in a single sitting:
- Technical interview — programming fundamentals, your projects, DSA basics, DBMS/OS concepts. Digital and Prime interviews go deeper into problem solving.
- Managerial round — scenario questions, ownership and teamwork, stress handling, and depth-checks on your resume.
- HR discussion — background verification questions, relocation and shift flexibility, salary structure explanation.
Stage 4 — Offer and onboarding
Selected candidates receive the offer letter on the NextStep/iBegin portal, followed by document verification and a joining date. Freshers start with TCS's Initial Learning Program (ILP) before project allocation.
TCS never charges money at any stage of recruitment and communicates only from official tcs.com email addresses — treat anything else as a scam.
